    Hi

I’ve got some unexpected behaviour occurring in the breadcrumbs. I’ve specified the parent and primary category of a post. The post has a few child categories of the parent. However, I expect the breadcrumbs to only show the parent category. However, it also shows one of the childs which I’m confused about. Take a look at the attached image:

breadcrumbs categories unexpected sub category showing

Is there an option somewhere that I’m missing to only show the parent category / primary category?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Richard

    Hello,

We use default woocommerce function to show the breadcrumbs. Does it work with default WooCommerce theme (Storefront)?
Have you followed Yoast SEO plugin instructions https://kb.yoast.com/kb/implement-wordpress-seo-breadcrumbs/ ?

    Regards

Not checked with the other theme, will have to install it.

However, I’ve not got the Yoast breadcrumbs turned on, should I?

Not touched any of those settings, it’s been this way for ages, since I installed it, any other tips as to what it could be?!

    Thanks

    Hello,

“Primary category” is Yoast plugin option. WooCommerce and our theme do not have this option by default and if you want to use “Primary category” you should follow the instructions of the plugin that you use to add it.
Here you can find official WooCommerce snippets how to change breadcrumbs https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/customise-the-woocommerce-breadcrumb/

I’m not bothered about having a primary category, I just don’t want a parent category and a random child category showing in the breadcrumbs? Only the parent category should show which seems to be how the demos work on Xstore site. Would appreciate if you could take a quick look under the hood.

    Many thanks again,

    Rich

    Hello,

I’m trying to explain that we don’t have any special options for the breadcrumbs. We use default woocommerce function. If you don’t like default WooCommerce breadcrumbs, please, follow the Yoast SEO plugin instructions if you want to customize breadcrumbs https://kb.yoast.com/kb/implement-wordpress-seo-breadcrumbs/

We provide support for issues related strictly to our theme. Additional customization is not included in our support.

I will turn off the primary category so that its no longer using a Yoast breadcrumbs feature and this may solve the problem. It just seems bizarre that it’s showing the parent and one of the child categories… Did you see the screenshot above?

I do appreciate the help you’re trying to give. I’m not an advanced developer and I don’t feel like I’ve done anything particularly unexpected. I’m just confused that after making a simple post and selecting the categories that I’m getting results different to that seen in the Xstore demos.

    Hello,

We have the same situation on our demo – backend http://prntscr.com/dafokh , frontend https://www.8theme.com/demo/xstore/bike/2016/01/30/dapibus-etiam-tellus/ http://prntscr.com/dafp2d

If you want to change this you can do this only by additional customization (xstore/framework/template-elements.php, copy etheme_breadcrumbs function in child theme functions.php and change it according to your needs).
