I got WordPress in Finnish including Woocommerce but now having problems translating Woopress-theme. After adding $locale=’de_DE’; to the config.php-file the language of WordPress changes to English and cannot be set back to Finnish until the $locale=’de_DE’;-code is removed.
How do i activate the theme translation without it affecting on system language?
Hello,
As far as I know Finnish translation should have prefix fi_ in the file name, for example fi.po.
Did you translate files in wp-content/themes/languages directory and name them fi.po/fi.mo or de_DE.po/de_DE.mo?
If you mean de_DE.po/de_DE.mo files from our documentation, it was shown only for an example, as you need name files with your local prefix.

Eva Kemp.
Yeah sorry that was just pasted from example, mine is named right and with the $locale=’fi_FI’; set in the config-file those translation files works ok but the problem is that the sites whole language changes to English including the WP-system end.. so the question is how to i make the translation to only the theme elements.
Hello,
Please provide FTP and wp-admin credentials in Private Content, and specify what language should be in WP Dashboard and for the site.

Hello,
I would like to keep site and wp-dashboard to be in Finnish (Suomi – Finland) like its now but translate the Woopress-theme elements. I have started the translations and there is fi_FI.po and mo:s in languages folder but those are not complete yet. But for example the “Cart” on top right should become “Ostoskori” when translation-files are working.
Please let me know about the changes you’re making to make it work correctly.
Cheers, Sami
Hello,
I’ve renamed your fi_FI.po and fi_FI.mo files to fi.po and fi.mo in wp-content/themes/woopress/languages directory, as this is correct language prefix https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/

Clear browser cache and check Cart widget in top now.

Perfect! Thanks a lot, appericiate it. Cant believe it was that simple error.. everywhere talking about naming the files with that style xx_Xx.xx so could not figure the problem myself. Cheers!
edit: its that way even in your faq: “From the file menu, save file with your language name e.g de_DE.po”
Hello,
You’re welcome!
