How to increace the WordPress memory limit?

    I downloaded a theme and must say that it seems to be very slow. First of all I need to increase the WordPress Memory Limit and maybe that’s the main problem. I get the wordpress error “Current memory limit: 40 MB | We recommend setting memory to at least 128MB” so how can I change it? I have read that I would need to add a code line to wp-config.php but I can’t see this folder anywhere. Is there any easy way to change it?? Thank you for your help in advance.
