Background color in 'wide' site layout

how do I change the white background color for all pages when the site is set to ‘wide layout’? Currently the background settings only seem to work if you have boxed layout set.

Do you wish background color to be changed only for content or header and footer too?

I am working on a local server at the moment so cannot send you a link – if you could just tell me where I need to update in the CSS that would be grreat
