    Hi

    Context:
I was urged to add my comments to upvoty, in the forum chat with Luca Rossi:
    https://www.8theme.com/topic/spotlight-xstore-widget-showing-the-wrong-number/#post-414042

Here is the upvoty link with Jack:
    https://8theme.upvoty.com/b/xstore/make-category-spotlight-ajaxrefresh-on-shop-page/

I did add the comment there, but still no reply.

Maybe you did not receive any notification.

My question is the following, last comment on this page:
    https://8theme.upvoty.com/b/xstore/make-category-spotlight-ajaxrefresh-on-shop-page/

    “We have two questions:

    1. When clicking different categories, products from previous clicks stack instead of displaying just the selected category’s products. This isn’t ideal, as customers expect to see only the selected category.

    2. Is it possible to update the archive title and description for each category? Currently, the spotlight shows the “all products” archive info, but we’d prefer it to match the selected category, similar to how the sidebar filters work.

For troubleshooting and testing to further understand you can have a look to A/B test the filters vs the spotlight widget here(shop page):

Also please check the video clarifying the questions above:

    Dear @Nicolo,

We apologize for the delay in responding to your message on the Upvoty forum, as we did not receive a notification about your reply.

Regarding the functionality of the spotlight categories filter, it operates as follows: When you select a category from the shop page, the URL updates to display products associated with the selected category. If you select an additional category, the displayed products will include items from both the previously and currently selected categories. This query operates on an OR basis, meaning that the displayed products are associated with at least one of the selected categories, similar to the ‘Filter by Categories’ widget.

From your video, we noticed that the default WooCommerce widget in sidebar simply loads the current category page upon selection. If you wish to modify the query type for this widget, we kindly ask you to submit a new request on our taskboard or update your existing request with additional details.

Currently, it is not possible to replace the title and description of the current category (if displayed with dynamic tags) once it has been filtered. We recommend using the original widgets for such requirements (Archive Title, archive description). In subsequent updates, we will attempt to implement this functionality. Should this enhancement be successful, it will be included in a future theme updates.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

    Best Regards,
    Jack Richardson

    Hi again Jack

Thank you for your detailed response, and no worries. I was thinking you did not get the notification.

We would like to clarify that we want the spotlight widget to function exactly how the sidebar category widget functions in the video. Specifically:

    1. Currently, the spotlight filter works on an OR basis, where selecting multiple categories displays products from any of the selected categories. However, we want the spotlight filter to behave such that when a category is clicked, it only displays products from that active category, without including items from previously selected categories. This would effectively reset the category filter with each selection.

We also need the page’s dynamic title and archive description to update based on the selected category, just as it does in the sidebar filters widget(check the video again for refreshment). This is essential for us to ensure the page reflects the category being viewed.

Could you please confirm if this functionality can be implemented or if any workarounds are available to achieve this?

    Thank you for your help.

    Best regards,
    Nicolo

    Dear @Nicolo,

We kindly recommend adding the additional information to your request on our taskboard, which can be accessed via this link: https://prnt.sc/x6KXP-XqfVop. Currently, we have not observed the necessary details from your side on this platform.

Please note that the implementation of the feature you have requested will be considered based on its popularity among users.

However, in recognition of your persistent inquiries, we are providing a temporary file for your use. You may download and test it to see if it meets your expectations regarding the functionality of the Spotlight categories. Don’t forget to make a backup of the current file to prevent any issue and the posibility to upload the old version if there is any issues with new file we attached.

Additionally, please insert the following snippet into your child-theme/functions.php file:
    add_filter('etheme_dynamic_categories_filter_cat_merge', '__return_false');

Should you require further assistance or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Best Regards,
    Jack Richardson

As per now, the website is under maintenance mode because I placed the order to speed up the site. One of your services.

As a result the filtering is stuck on loading.

I will provide the feedback once the speed project is finished and the site is working properly again.
