    Hi there,

Now I found a question, a notification appeared on top of my front page and said: “XStore Core plugin requires the following theme: XStore v.8.0.11. Video tutorial. This warning is visible for administrator only.” and I do not want to update that at all, however, when I get to the product pages, it appeared some fatal errors on every product page.

And I do not want to update that because I have done a lot of modifications on this version, if I update, how and where can I make those modifications apply to this latest updates?

Since I do not want to update that core plugin, and now I want to know how to make my website back to normal, especially the products pages.

I will be more appreciate it if you could solve these two issues for me by video recording.

Looking forward to your early reply.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Did you make changes directly in the parent theme files (wp-content/themes/xstore) that you are afraid to lose them?
Because I have updated theme (and renamed the old version in case you have any changed files there) and don’t see any problems with styles on your site.

If everything is ok you can remove the old version of theme.

    Regards

    Hello Olga,

    Thanks for your quick response.

Yep, all the changes we made directly in the parent theme files (wp-content/themes/xstore) and some other files.

And now some styles we made before have already disappeared, for instance,
https://gyazo.com/2502b2f046c4ee2113f1ae79fe4c007f, (https://i.imgur.com/ekFnCLr.png) apart from the Wishlist and Cart icon, we also added a new icon named My Account, but now it disappeared, and the position of reviews is not on the right section, we made it show directly below the images and Additional Information area, but now the position is misplaced, please check:
https://i.imgur.com/mGRJBzd.png, the links we set before are also disappeared and some other issues.

And the footer section on the products pages is also having some issues and needs to be fixed urgently.

Now all I want to know is if there are any methods to go back to the former version that I used and make all the changes back to normal? Cause I do not want to update these versions from time to time, for I have made so many changes to the existed version, and once I update then all the changes I made on the former version would be not available anymore, and I have to update again all my changes and that is really annoying.

And second I want to know is there any method to deactivate the automatic updating? Just in order to avoid the website getting crashed just like now.

Looking forward to your early reply and please help me solve this issue by video recording, and many thanks in advance.

    Hello,

Why did not you use child theme for additional customization?
Never change files of the parent theme. Use child theme for these purposes.
Anyway, even if I enable parent theme I don’t see any Account icon in your header, single product displays fatal error https://prnt.sc/26cfsdt So, old theme is not good for you. Do you have backup of you site before the update? Could you, please, create a staging site and restore backup there to understand changes you made in the parent theme and move them to the child theme of your production site?

    Regards

    Hello,

    1) Check footer now.
    2) If you place your changes in child theme you won’t lose them after parent theme update. Read more about child themes https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/advanced-topics/child-themes/ If you need to change some styles, use child theme style.css, for example https://prnt.sc/26csvt2
If you want to make changes in some functions then just copy the function to child theme functions.php and edit that according to your needs. If you need to make changes in woocommerce files then copy files to child theme folder and edit them according to your needs.
    3) Both plugin and theme updates apply only if you click the update button. It does not update automatically without your manual click on the update button. Anyway, we recommend keeping theme update plugins up to date to get fixes and improvements and avoid compatibility issues with new versions of PHP WooCommerce, WordPress. To avoid problems with the update we recommend creating a staging site (full copy of the production site) and test the update there first. If everything is ok you’ll be able to update production site. If you find any issues you’ll be able to fix them on the staging site and then move changes to your production. It’s the safest way to update the site.

    Regards
