Is there any way to change the term ‘Brand’ to something else? If I activate the Taxonomy Brand to use Brands within the theme, then everything associated with this is named “Brand”. For instance, the word “Brand” is placed onto the single product page and is also used when adding widgets to the sidebar, and many other areas. I realize that there are a couple of options to keep the word “Brand” from showing up, but it would be better to have the option to change it something else if the user wants to.

I am only selling one Brand of product on my website, but I have different “Collections” of products. It would be beneficial to call the Brand Taxonomy and everything associated with it “Collections”.

Is there a way to do this? If so, please provide me some instructions. And if not, please add this ability to a future update. Thank you.

    Hello,

Use translation files if you want to change any hardcoded texts https://www.8theme.com/documentation/xstore/theme-translation/base-theme-translation/ Change brands string in the theme translation files and also in XStore core plugin translation.

    Regards

    Hi Rose,

I am going to use the Loco Translate plugin. Do I create a translation file or do I simply edit the theme and plugin files you mentioned via the translation plugin? If I change the Brands string in the theme and core plugin via the translation plugin, do the changes stay when the them is updated, or do I need to change it after every theme update?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

You can upload partial translations if you find your language in the list of the available languages https://xstore.8theme.com/glotpress/projects/xstore-theme/ and https://xstore.8theme.com/glotpress/projects/xstore-core-plugin/ or create the new translation following the docs.

You won’t lose your translation after theme or plugin update if you place translation files either to custom or to system directory https://prnt.sc/2643itm Don’t place it to author directory because it will be removed after an update.

Sounds good. I created a new translation file and saved it to the custom file location for the XStore Theme and XStore Core plugin. Inside of the Loco Translation plugin I searched for the term ‘Brand’ and changed all of the terms to Collection. Everything looks changed now.

Additional question: Would there be any benefit to change the Taxonomy ‘Brand’ term to ‘Collection’ as well? I have a plugin named TaxoPress https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-tags/ and it allows you to change the Taxonomy terms so that everything matches the changes I made in the translation files.

    Thanks

    Hello,

Not sure about this. Don’t know if you won’t face compatibility issues after that. You may try but can’t guarantee.
Take into account that you can change the brand base permalink in Settings > Permalinks if you need.
