How do I arrange footer sidebars properly?

Hello,

I have a problem with the footer sidebars. I would like to add components which stand next to each other, and I added one of the components in Footer Sidebar 1 (it is a text block) and the other in Footer Sidebar 2 (it is a facebook widget). However they stack on top of each other. How are the footer sidebars supposed to work?
