We have hierarchical product categories. There’s a different layout for the main categories and the sub-categories. As those are not many, I’ve defined some 15 different templates and assigned the category in question.
My problem starts when I get to sub-sub-categories, because those are many.
If I stay with the standard woocommerce product category archive page, all works as intended. I select a sub-sub-category, and those products are shown.
However, I would like to give it a special look.
So I edit a template with WPBakery, include a “[8Themes] Product Categories” element, and in another column I would like to show the products of the selected category. But both the [8Themes] Products and [8Themes] Products of a Category elements require me to enter a specific category. How can I Iink the two blocks? So that they work like in the ones where I do it by hand.
So it works in https://lianamore.com/product-category/dessous and in https://lianamore.com/product-category/dessous/bhs-unterteile because the product category is set by hand in the right hand element, but it doesn’t work in https://lianamore.com/product-category/dessous/bhs-unterteile/straps-hemden/
Hello,
Use the widgetized sidebar element and choose the specially created custom widget area http://prntscr.com/pnmltu
Add the Product categories widget to custom widget area http://prntscr.com/pnmpcl
You can do the same for all the other templates to display product categories.
Also, could you show me the design of your product category that requires the WPBakery builder for the shop archive? Because categories that you provided (banner + sidebar+products) could be implemented without DHWCPage – WooCommerce Page Template Builder.
Regards
Thanks for answering. We have a hierarchical setup of product categories.
The main categories (toys, dessous, body & soul)
e.g. https://lianamore.com/product-category/dessous/
have a different layout than the 2nd-level categories
e.g. https://lianamore.com/product-category/dessous/kleider-tops/
(both have headers)
and then the 3rd-level categories have no header, e.g.
https://lianamore.com/product-category/dessous/kleider-tops/tops/
(which doesn’t currently work because of my problem with templates)
In the private area I attach the design how it should look like…
Hello,
What do you think about the following layout http://prntscr.com/pnnrxz ? Then it will be much easier for you to achieve it.
I have explained to you how to solve the problem with the categories list. Is this solution not suitable for you?
Regards
I have to try it first, but I will do this on a staging site, because we’ve played around with this already far too much, and I’m afraid we will ruin more than gain, truth to be told.
I know that a wide header would be easier, even easier would be the same type of header on every page, but that would also take away from the joy of browsing.
I’ll let you know.
Olga, I have picked up your idea with the widgetized sidebar, because it helps with two other things:
1. I can limit the depth of category display (the easiest way out:of that template problem with the sub-sub-categories ,– they have very few products anyway. They’re mainly for SEO, they’re too fine-grain for customers.
And that works.
2. I can add other widgets, so I’m finally able to display the color and size filter on that same sidebar.
But: that throws a few Javascript errors, and the loading picture appears and doesn’t disappear anymore.
I have updated the URL below with that new template, Could you please check out the problem?
Hello,
2) That image is preloader image that you uploaded http://prntscr.com/pnxfoa You pressed the filter button and the loader appeared. You are using a nonstandard products page, so don’t enable the Ajax filter and Ajax pagination options http://prntscr.com/pnxnvc they won’t work without additional customization in your case. In addition, filter does not work ok even without Ajax. And not just our theme filter widget but the default WooCommerce Filter by attribute widget, you can add and check. Filters work only with Archive products element http://prntscr.com/pny8uz
Also, take into account that you don’t have pagination to show all the products from the category, for example, https://lianamore.com/product-category/dessous/ There is pagination by default http://prntscr.com/pnxub6 but not if you use the WC Product category element of that plugin http://prntscr.com/pnxwl4 So, how your customers will check the other products? I think you need to use another element to show all the products of the category http://prntscr.com/pny0n2 and update styles for the sorting and pagination because they are missing while using this element. Anyway, clarify all of this with the plugin author.
The custom that you add using Yellow pencil plugin hides category page elements https://gyazo.com/c39b0fd92beeb9d262193643a7786498 I would recommend you to hire a professional developer who is familiar with CSS and won’t use negative margin to remove the top space between sections. if you need to change a lot of things according to your design, for example, send customization request to WPKraken team.

Thanks for your feedback. Turns out that “Archive Products” element did the trick. This is exactly what I should have used from the start. In combination with the widgetized sidebar it does exactly what I expected it to do.
Thank you so much for your help!
