Hello.
Every 2 months I have to ask my client to regenerate her token to show their Instagram feed on the website. I have another website with another Instagram plugin called “Smash Balloon Instagram Feed” and I don’t need to do nothing as it is valid since the website has been created. So i wonder… Isn’t possible to have permanent token on Instagram wall or some other method to do so?
Thank you in advance!
Hello, @Gramach0v,
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to have a permanent token for Instagram access as Instagram’s API access tokens have a limited lifespan for security reasons. Instagram requires developers to re-authenticate their tokens periodically to ensure that the app or plugin is still authorized to access the user’s Instagram account.
However, some Instagram plugins or apps like “Smash Balloon Instagram Feed” may have a feature that allows them to automatically refresh the access token without the need for manual re-authorization every few months. This is usually achieved by using a “refresh token” mechanism that allows the app or plugin to request a new access token from Instagram’s API server without the need for the user to manually re-authorize the app.

Hello, @Tony Rodriguez
Thank you for your answer. If there is such mechanism, why don’t you guys implementate it? I’m sure most of your users would be glad to dismiss the manual re-authorization every 2 months…
Hello, @Gramach0v,
While the refresh token mechanism is available for some Instagram plugins and apps, it may not be feasible or appropriate to implement it for all users of the platform. This may depend on various factors, such as the specific features and functionalities of the app or plugin, the user’s preferences and requirements, and Instagram’s terms of service.
Furthermore, it’s important to note that the refresh token mechanism may also have its own limitations and risks, such as increased security vulnerabilities and potential conflicts with other apps or plugins. As such, it’s crucial to carefully evaluate and balance the benefits and drawbacks of using such a mechanism.
While the refresh token mechanism is available in some cases, it may not be the best option for all users and situations.
Alternatively, you can post your request on our Taskboard at https://www.8theme.com/taskboard/. If it receives enough votes from other customers, our development team will consider adding it in one of the upcoming updates.

I see. I think you can add an option to enable or disable that function within the plugin and show that warning as you are enabling it. It might be even disabled my default. I will add that request to taskboard, but I’m wondering how many are enough upvotes…
Thank you!
Hello, @Gramach0v,
You’re welcome! That’s a great suggestion. Adding an option to enable or disable the function within the theme would provide more flexibility for users and ensure they have control over the feature. Displaying a warning message upon enabling the function would also be a helpful addition.
As for the number of upvotes required, it ultimately depends on the dev team’s decision-making process and priorities.
However, it’s always a good idea to add any feature requests to the taskboard so that they can be considered in future updates.
Thanks for your feedback and let us know if you have any further suggestions or questions!
