I’m building a new site from scratch using Woopress and am somewhat new to WordPress in general, so I wanted to check if I have understood this correctly:

As long as I don’t do some manual editing in the actual theme files I won’t have any trouble when updating the theme to a new version?

Widgets, sidebars, Visual composer pages an so on should remain intact, right? What about translations done in WPML?

    Hello ebookman,
you are right. Theme settings and translation files are stored in separated files and will not be overwritten on normal theme update.
If you will need to edit any of theme resource files – please do it in child theme: https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

    Regards,
    Stan Russell.
