Hello, a few weeks ago I was trying to update to the new theme version. The update completed but all my clients elements, text, and products on the home page were either missing, or not like they should be. 99% of the page was so messed up that it was not presentable. Luckily, I was able to restore my clients website and database backup to the old version. It was a scary moment.
I renewed my support in hopes someone could update the site for me and have it look like it currently looks. The update needs to be done, but I am scared of something going wrong again.
Hello,
Thanks for contacting us.
I would recommend you to create a staging site (the full copy of live site). Then we’ll help you to update the theme on the staging site and if everything is ok you’ll be able to move updated files and styles to the production site.
Please watch this video – https://youtu.be/I7wPeHEPb6E Information about plugin updating you can find here – https://www.8theme.com/documentation/xstore/plugins/plugins-update/
If you still need our assistance, please provide us with temporary wp-admin and FTP access to the staging site.
Regards
Thank you. I am new to creating staging sites. For this case, should I use the Wp Staging plugin?
I did not test such plugin so can’t give you a solid response. Before using any plugin read description and documentation to be sure that it is suitable for you. Some of our clients use Duplicator plugin to make a copy of the live site.
Regards
Rose,
I set up a staging site. All updates went smooth on the staging site. I did the exact same thing to the real site and I have the same results.
The real site is http://www.moxybowling.com
and the staging site is http://www.moxybowling.com/staging
I am not understanding what the problem is and really need some help.
Can you help?
Thanks,
Kyle
Hello,
Please describe in more details, with screenshots, what displays incorrectly on the staging site with the latest theme version.
Note that WordPress 5.0.2 use Gutenberg as a default page editor http://prntscr.com/m0nfeo To be able to edit pages using WPBakery page builder https://prnt.sc/ltwb5l or http://prntscr.com/lz8vl1 you need to update the plugin to the latest version – https://www.8theme.com/documentation/xstore/plugins/plugins-update/
Then I would recommend you to disable Header overlap in Theme Options > Header > Header Styles and enable it only on pages where it is required (like your home page) via [8theme] Layout options http://prntscr.com/m0nf3u
Regards
Sorry, I did not see the attachment icon. The staging site is displaying everything properly. The actual site, most of the product images are missing, some social icons at the top, background image, and the grid is messed up. (See images)
https://photos.app.goo.gl/fQZjbTu3EyFwCZAo8 Here is an album. The main issues are on the home page and products page.
Thanks Rose
And just to be clear, everything is displaying correctly on the staging site. Its the actual site that has problems after doing the same updates.
Please clear cache and check one more time. Your live site looks fine for me – https://gyazo.com/21f2dc4f1919394e72ffa58c7ecd0608 https://gyazo.com/de70545669b95ff21ccafa8f960b6759
To change this color http://prntscr.com/m0o5c1 go to Theme Options > Typography > Menu > Menu 1 level (hover, active).

Thank you so much, I was not expecting such a simple fix. I have been stressing this all day. You are a blessing! I cannot thank you enough.
You are welcome!
