We have inherited a site that is running version 1.3 of xStore theme. Is there a specific update process for updating from such an old version without breaking the website? We have tried just uploading the latest version and it messed up the pages. We have reverted the site back to 1.3

    Hello @OI Digital,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your concern with updating the xStore theme from version 1.3. We understand the importance of ensuring a smooth update process to maintain the integrity of your website.

Updating from an older version of the theme to the latest version can sometimes lead to complications, as you’ve experienced. To avoid issues and ensure a successful update, we recommend the following steps:

    1. **Backup Your Website**: Before proceeding with the update, ensure you have a complete backup of your website, including all files and databases. This will allow you to restore the original state if necessary.

    2. **Staging Environment**: If possible, perform the update on a staging site first. This allows you to test the new theme version without affecting your live site.

    3. **Update WordPress and Plugins**: Ensure that your WordPress core and all plugins are updated to their latest versions. This helps in minimizing compatibility issues.

    4. **Manual Update**: Since the automatic update did not work as expected, a manual update might be necessary. You can do this by downloading the latest version of the XStore theme from our website and uploading it to your server via FTP. Replace the old theme files with the new ones in the wp-content/themes directory.

    5. **Check Customizations**: If you have made customizations to the theme files, you will need to reapply them after the update. It is recommended to use a child theme for such customizations in the future to avoid losing them on updates.

    6. **Clear Cache**: After updating, clear all caches on your website and browser to ensure that changes are reflected correctly.

    7. **Test All Functionalities**: Thoroughly test the website to ensure that all functionalities are working as expected. Check for any visual or functional discrepancies and address them accordingly.

If you encounter any specific issues during the update process, please do not hesitate to contact our support team with details. We are here to assist you every step of the way.

    Best Regards,

    Thanks for your help Jack.

So we have the new themes, child themes and the core plugin all isntalled in our staging site.

On the new version of the child theme we can see there is an import option to import customisations, is there an export option in the old theme as we cannot see this, and as we are inheriting the site from a developer taht no longer operates, it means we dont actually know waht all the individual customisations are.

We found the export option on 1.3, but appears the export file isn’t compatible with v9.x when importing

    Dear @OI Digital,

We understand that upgrading from an older version of the XStore theme to the latest one can be challenging. To facilitate a smoother transition, we have provided guidelines for a streamlined migration process. It is important to note that numerous features and options have been updated/added/removed since the version you are currently using. Such as export option is not compatible as you already found.

To proceed with the migration, we recommend the following steps:

    1. Contact your hosting provider to arrange for a duplication of your live website onto a staging environment.
    2. Install the latest version of the XStore theme and XStore Core on your staging website.
    3. After migration, your products, posts, and projects will be preserved. However, you may need to review and adjust content across your pages and update settings within the Theme Options as necessary.

For detailed instructions on migrating from older to newer versions of the XStore theme, please visit our documentation page: https://www.8theme.com/documentation/xstore/theme-installation/theme-update/. Given the age of your current installation, additional steps outlined in the guide will be required.

Should you require further assistance or wish to minimize potential issues during the migration, please do not hesitate to contact our customization department at: https://www.8theme.com/account/#etheme_customization_panel.

Thank you for your attention, and we look forward to supporting you through this upgrade process.

    Best Regards,
