I dont know what has changed in my website but the generated thumbnails of my newly uploaded images are not being used in the shop page. I have regenerated thumbnails but this has not solved my issue.
I also found out that my aspect ratio (2:3 or 4:5) is creating images with 2 pixels width and 3 pixels height instead of using the 2:3 value as the ratio. So I have thumbnails with 2×3 or 4×8 size depending on the aspect ratio I chose in the store theme options.
The first screenshot is from a product that was uploaded a week ago and the thumbnail is being used correctly.

The second screenshot is from a newly created product, the thumbnail is not being used and the img tag has invalid width and height set and also the thumbnail that exists is not being used:
