Hi, hope you are well.
I wonder, do you recommend loco translate or wpml for frontend translations?
I don’t need my bakcend to be translated. I don’t multilingual site either.
I just need a scalable site in Norwegian, that doesn’t break every time there is an update. I have had issues with this with loco translate. When I update the language changes.
Do you recommend wpml or loco translate for your customers?
Thanks for any additional info.
Hello, Nicolo,
Thank you for reaching out to us with your query.
We would recommend using the Loco Translate plugin.
Translation files of the theme should be placed in /wp-content/languages/themes/ folder,
plugins, like Core plugin, in /wp-content/languages/plugins folder,
with correct names, for example, for XStore theme: xstore-nb_NO.po, and xstore-core-nb_NO.po for XStore Core plugin, then you will not lose translation after the update – https://www.8theme.com/documentation/xstore/theme-translation/base-theme-translation/
We would recommend doing a backup of all the files before any update.
Also, after every update, you need to synchronize translation – https://www.8theme.com/documentation/xstore/theme-translation/translation-files-update/ Sometimes new strings are added, and only after synchronization, you’ll be able to translate new strings or strings that were changed. Not always, but some strings can be missing after the sync and you need to find and translate them one more time, this is independent of us and relates to WP functionality.

Ok, thanks.
May i ask why you choose to recommend Loco translate? What is the main reasons for this?
Hello, Nicolo,
We hope this message finds you well.
We would like to inform you that WPML is a premium plugin designed to facilitate multilingual translations on your website.
Alternatively, Loco Translate is a complimentary plugin that enables on-site translations through the Dashboard. For further information, please visit: https://wordpress.org/plugins/loco-translate/
Should you require translation for a single language, we recommend utilizing the Loco Translate or PoEdit. Detailed instructions can be found here: https://www.8theme.com/documentation/xstore/theme-translation/translation-files-update/
We trust this information will be of assistance to you. Should you have any further inquiries, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Best Regards,
8Theme’s Team
