I am unsure as to whether I made any changes to the files and need to update my website, TheFancyTrunk.com, because the size guide isn’t working.
What is the best way to update my site without losing any changes? I know I need to move the changes over to the .css but I don’t know where these changes are and how to do that.
Thank you!
Hello,
First of all before the updating you would better do the backup of all your files!
If you have made changes directly in template files you will lose them after update, unfortunately.
To avoid this problem you should make your changes in child theme https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes and css changes place in custom.css, in which you can override the default styling of the theme. All the CSS styles placed in this file will not be lost after upgrading the theme in the future! To create “custom.css” you can rename the file “default.custom.css” which is located in theme directory. To enable it go to Theme Options > Custom CSS > ON.
To update theme:
– Download the zipped package from ThemeForest and extract to your desktop.
– In the extracted package you will find archive blanco_theme_v2.9.1.zip, which is the wordpress theme.
– Extract blanco_theme_v2.9.1.zip file and upload the extracted folder to /wp-content/themes/ folder on your server with overwriting. You can do this via FTP.
Also before update, please, delete woocommerce folder from wp-content/themes/blanco/.
And don’t forget to backup your files!
Regards
Did all of that but now my products have all of these fatal errors: http://thefancytrunk.com/product-category/jewelry/ and the footer is gone on some pages, and the home page isn’t working at all its just displaying a single product.
I’m panicking! How do I fix this?
Thanks!
Hello,
Could you, please, provide admin panel and FTP accesses in Private Content. We’ll check and try to help you.
Thank you! Hopefully it is something easy to fix!
Hi,
Just checking in to see if you know what the problem is with my products and homepage??
I’m meeting with the client tonight and am starting to panic bc I can’t edit the inventory or homepage.
Thanks!0
Hello,
I sorry for delay. You have asked about theme update and I thought you are using latest WooCommerce version, but you did not update WooCommerce and version 2.9.1 is not compatible with your current version of WooCommerce. I have updated WooCommerce too and it have fixed some errors, but you did not follow our instructions mentioned above and did not delete woocommerce folder from wp-content/themes/blanco/ before update. That’s why, please, provide FTP access.
Thank you so much for all of your help. I’m not versed in manual updating, I apologize. My FTP info is to follow.
Hello,
Please, check now. Do you have any other issues?
Yes,
I added size options to a sample product http://thefancytrunk.com/product/orange-dress/ and when I updated it, now there isn’t a buy button or size options or anything. Where did all the info go?
Thanks!
Cortney
Hello,
The link http://thefancytrunk.com/product/orange-dress/ displays a “coming soon” page, which is created by a plugin. Try to disable it. Also please try to disable your plugins one by one to check what causes the button issue.
Regards,
Eva Kemp.
I can deactivate the coming soon plugin if you need me too but in this thread I have provided my login info. I figured I didn’t need to provide it again. The only plugins that are active on my site are the ones your theme recommended installing. I haven’t added anything else and the button is not working. Neither is the size dropdown list. How do I fix this?
Hello,
Sorry for a long delay.
There is a problem with the default theme too. I advise you to read woocommerce documentation how to create products: http://docs.woothemes.com/document/managing-products/
Also if you want to use attributes for the products you have to create variable products.
Regards,
Eva Kemp.
