I upgraded to latest version of Woocommerce and get lots of error notices, out of date plugin files on theme. Are these fixed if I update the theme to latest version? I believe I have the one from 4 months ago..

    Hello,

Please update the theme to the latest version and Woocommerce as well.
Before update delete “woocommerce” folder in the directory wp-content/themes/idstore/ and it’ll be reuploaded from a new theme package.

Don’t forget to create back up of your files and database before starting update process!

(it’s for Legenda theme but the process is the same).

    Regards,
    Eva Kemp.

Hi there, read this thread and wondered why it’s necessary to delete the Woocommerce folder when you overwrite the files when copying the whole themes folder? Just want to make sure before I jump into it.

Also, I tried to update Visual Composer but it went wrong. In the documentation it says, just to overwrite. Result: Two plugins http://screencast.com/t/nKY4f0L6Ovm1
What is the right way pls?

Yes, I was wondering the same thing. Also I should mention that I have already updated Woocommerce. Does it make a difference in which order I update? I.E Is updating Woocommerce first and theme second ok?

    Hello,

“woocommerce” folder should be deleted because some old files are removed in the latest theme version, and if you just overwrite the folder, those file will be still present.

    @Jens
, may we update the plugin for you?

    @lorelei
, there is no difference what you update first.

    Best regards,
    Jack Richardson.

The frontpage is broken. VC is not shown when I edit? Pls prioritize this matter. Thx.

    Hello @Jens,

As I see you’re using very old theme version.
Please update it to the version 2.9.
Before update delete “woocommerce” folder in the directory wp-content/themes/legenda/ and it’ll be reuploaded from a new theme package.
Also update all required plugins https://www.8theme.com/download-plugins/ .

Don’t forget to create back up of your files and database before starting update process!

    Best regards,
    Jack Richardson.

    Okay, so:

    1. delete woo folder
    2. update theme from new package with overwrite
    3. update plugins

    Is this the order?

Also, when updating plugins I understand that I just make a overwrite. Should I first delete the plugin folder on the server or should I deactivate + delete the plugin from the administration?

And what about the 2 instances of VC in the plugin administration – should I deactivate/delete the plugins even though there’s just one folder on the server? I just need to get it right the first time, thx.

    Hello @Jens,

    Yes, the order is correct.
You just need overwrite folders, not delete them.

    Thank you.
    Best regards,
    Jack Richardson.

Everything updated – frontpage doesn’t work and still two VS listings in dashboard? Does this mean restore from full backup!?

Hi Eva, thanks for your follow up.
Yes it is. It just worries me that files needs to be edited in order for things to work. What about next update/overwrite then – will the page then break again?
Of very great concern to me since I’m in the proces of duplicating all content (website and database) to several country top-level domains (international sites) which will then have the same potential error.

The whole update proces has often given me trouble. But as I understand the method for theme AND plugin updates are the same, in short: ftp copy the unzipped folder to the existent location with overwrite. No need to deactivate and delete existent installs from the WP dashboard.

Also, your page with the latest plugin updates is not that userfriendly since you can’t see what versions they are, only after download.

But your asistance is good and quick which is nice (I’ve lately given you top stars:)).
    Regards
    Jens

    Hello @Jens,

Now versions of plugins are visible on our plugins page https://www.8theme.com/download-plugins/ . After update your site shouldn’t be broken. But we recommend always to create back up before update.

We appreciate your feedback a lot and will try to fix theme bugs in the next update.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,
    Jack Richardson.
