Please check permissions on this file: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions
Please add the code to custom.css and save it yourself:

Hello,

You need remove those widgets from the Primary Widget Area in Appearance > Widgets. If search widget still appears you’ll need to add an empty text widget into there.

The reason it didn’t work was that you didn’t tick “Enable Custom CSS file” in Blanco Theme Settings. I’ve set the width 1024px in custom.css.
Please check the site now.
